OPEN DAYS OF TRADITIONAL TRADES

STROLLS TO SYMBOLIC PLACES

AUTONOMY TO DISCOVER THE AREA AT YOUR OWN PACE

Our new 7 days experience lets you discover and enjoy the character of our valley slowly, through your senses, at your pace and also, together with a local person of the valley (speaking your language) who will be your host throughout the 7 days.

During these 7 days you will stay at your own self catering traditional rural house located in one of the eight small villages and hamlets of the valley. From that house we offer you 4 strolls with your host (in your language) that will go through different symbolic places of the valley and that will revolve around the village and its people, the history of the region, the mountains, and the surroundings of the hamlets. Furthermore, you will share together with your local host 2 open days with a local traditional trader to discover two of the traditional trades of the valley and you will have self-guided materials to enjoy and discover at your own pace.

Strolls

The four strolls, gentle walks of around 3 hours each led by your local host (in English, French, German or Spanish). They will introduce you to the village or hamlet you are staying at (understanding its origins, the evolution, the architecture and the people living there); the history of the region (getting to know it in one of the two Arab castles of the valley after a 45 min walk); the trades of the valley (through a walking tour in a dramatic scenery in the limestone craggy mountains  nearby); and the surroundings of the town (including a workshop on organic gardening and visiting the beautiful vegetable gardens of the villages).

Traditional trades open days

Together with your local host and local traders of the valley, on these open days you have the opportunity to enjoy and see the valley from a privileged perspective, going to two of the working places of the still existing traditional trades (shepherds, horse breeding, beekeepers, olive oil, cherries, etc.) for discovering the people doing it, the processes, their way of living and the surroundings of their working places (with some beautiful hideaways), and their products (in a product tasting at the end of the open day for all trades elaborating edible products).

The 2 open days will last 6 hours each aprox, and will focus on two different traditional trades (collection of the cherries during the springtime; shepherding of sheep and goats; feeding and combing 68 German and Irish horses; preparing some of the most delicious canned dishes of the region, etc.) that will be arranged for you depending on the season of the year and the availability of local traders. Read more on the traditional trades.

Self guided materials

To complete the experience we offer you self guided walking materials for all interests and walking levels for letting you discover and choose the tour that best fits your interests at your own pace. We have included self guided tours for discovering the natural surroundings (waterfalls, ridges, wetlands); self guided tours of the many prehistoric cave paintings of the region (some declared world human heritage); some coastline walks for discovering off the track little beaches of the region; and walks for discovering the other eight small hidden villages of the valley.
